Macpex completes 8-well P&A campaign in the Gulf of Guinea

A 14-month plug and abandonment programme wrapped 22 days ahead of plan with zero recordable incidents across 8 subsea wells.

Macpex has completed a multi-well plug and abandonment (P&A) campaign in a 1,450 m water depth field in the Gulf of Guinea, executing all eight subsea wells 22 days ahead of the operator's baseline schedule.

Scope of work

The scope covered mechanical isolation, cement plug placement, tubing recovery and wellhead severance across a mix of pre-salt and post-salt completions installed between 2004 and 2011. Macpex acted as integrated well engineering contractor, providing programme design, offshore supervision and post-job verification.

Performance

The campaign closed with a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of 0.00, no lost-time incidents and 97% right-first-time barrier verification. Non-productive time on the drillship was held below 4.2% against a 7% target, generating an estimated $28M of rig-day savings for the operator.

What made the difference

Batch-set cement plugs, a shared well-on-a-page dashboard between rig and shore, and a standing 30-minute pre-tour readiness review were the three interventions the team credits with the schedule gain.
